Professional learning sessions draw on content from Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain by Zaretta Hammond because of its deep alignment to our values, commitments, and vision for instruction found in our Framework for Equitable Schools. Our shared reading will draw on the connection cutting-edge neuroscience research and our classrooms and support to students. Participants will learn innovative approaches for designing and implementing brain-compatible instruction that is rigorous and authentically engages culturally and linguistically diverse students, like those served in our schools.
Sessions will regularly refer to Hammond’s “Ready for Rigor Framework.” Throughout the year, we will unpack the principles and tools that are staples in the toolkit for every culturally responsive teacher.
Mentees will receive PDPs for participation and are required to participate in a mentor and induction program for licensure. This series is limited to ’23-’24 Mentors and Mentees. Mentors time for these professional learning sessions have been included in the Mentor Stipend.
