Licensure
Educators in SEZP are expected to hold appropriate licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Those who are new to teaching – whether recent graduates or career changes – may be eligible for Emergency Licensure or licensure waivers.
SEZP provides many opportunities for additional support for those seeking licensure, often through partnerships with Springfield Public Schools, local institutions of higher education, or other organizations.
Opportunities for support may have eligibility criteria and include, but are not limited to:
- MTEL preparation courses or vouchers (for certain exams)
- MTEL vouchers for eligible educators
- Financial support for licensure programs for eligible educators (Examples: Elms College CEUE, Springfield College S-Cubed Program, Paradigm Shift, Teach For America, Teach Western Mass)
- No- or low-cost, job-embedded licensure program for those seeking Special Education licensure
- No-cost SEI Endorsement course offered twice each school year
