This hybrid workshop is designed to support teacher leaders, coaches, and others who provide local professional development and support for using the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework, 2020 Edition, to plan instruction at the unit level.
Learning Goals
• Integrate content and language learning by researching the architecture of a content unit (pre-workshop tasks)
• setting unit language goals through unit and text analysis
• identifying how Language Functions and Language Features help students convey meaning more effectively in content learning.
• Prepare to support other educators in using the WIDA ELD Standards Framework in their local contexts.
Participation Requirements
• Complete pre-work (1 hour)
• Participate in the introductory webinar (1 hour)
• Participate in the one-day, in-person workshop
Optional Follow-up
• Participants will have access to resources and optional self-paced learning activities (1–2 hours) to build their own knowledge and messaging around the use of the WIDA ELD Standards Framework.
• Attendees who complete the workshop will receive an invitation to join a consortium-wide pilot community of practice with quarterly activities and collaborative online discussions.
