High School of Commerce

About High School of Commerce

Through its unique “pathways” program, Commerce prepares scholars for careers in the fields of Information Technology (IT), Health and Human Services, and Engineering. “College is not an option” is the motto that ensures ALL Commerce scholars will graduate with 1 or more college classes. In addition, scholars can earn up to an Associate Degree – at no cost. The unique pathways program also includes the opportunity to earn an industry recognized certificate that will enable scholars to enter a career and earn a life-sustaining wage immediately following high school graduation. The school also offers a robust assortment of extracurricular sports and activities.

What is the school doing to improve outcomes?

  • Increasing the percent of teachers who effectively deliver standard aligned instruction by engaging in a data-driven progress monitoring cycle of the implementation of the current standard aligned curriculum in ELA, math, and biology courses
  • Increasing the percent of Tier 2 scholars who increase their MAP RIT* scores by 3+ points by developing an intensive intervention support system, inclusive of instructional intervention blocks, which allow all scholars to receive targeted treatments based on MAP data
  • Increasing daily attendance rate to 95% and reducing chronic absenteeism to 30% or lower through a data-driven, targeted, and tiered approach
  • Increasing the utilization of the research-based best practices that create a culture and climate conducive to improved scholar attendance
  • Increase the number of college courses taught by Commerce Adjunct Professors
