The next generation of local entrepreneurs gathered Friday in Springfield to show off their skills in front of a panel of professionals. You could think of it as “Shark Tank for Kids” where the budding business-owners got to pitch their ideas for a chance to compete on the national stage.
Being able to make the perfect pitch is big business, as well as a little nerve-wracking, for nearly a dozen sixth through twelfth grade students at Duggan Academy in Springfield. Students like Rachel Soto and Dayneris Rodriguez from Discovery High School were there to present their business idea: flowers made of ribbons. “We wanted to gift our mothers things, but we were like flowers, they die off quickly and most you have to take care of them and most of the time, my mom’s working a lot, so I was like why not just make her flowers that don’t die off,” Soto and Rodriguez said.
